Gentle & Transformative
Soft, rhythmic movement that speaks to the nervous system rather than the muscle. An interpretation of the teachings of Dr. Milton Trager.
Most bodywork asks your muscles to let go. Freedom Bodywork asks your nervous system. It was developed by Nancy Toner Weinberger, who trained directly with Dr. Milton Trager and taught the work for decades before retiring from practice and teaching. It rests on a simple observation: much of the tension we carry isn't stored in the tissue. It's stored in the pattern. The body learns to brace, and it keeps bracing long after the reason is gone. I studied this work under Nancy, and it has shaped how I approach every other modality I practice.
No oil, no lotion. You stay comfortably clothed in something loose or stretchy. Rather than pressing into muscle, I use soft, rhythmic movement (weighing, rocking, shimmering, gentle elongation) to ask your body a question it can actually answer: what would this feel like if it were lighter? There's nothing to push through and nothing to brace against. The movement stays soft enough that your nervous system never needs to guard, and it's that absence of threat that finally lets the guarding stop.
Clients most often describe walking out lighter than they walked in: more range of motion, a clearer state of mind, better sleep that night, and an emotional settling that's easier to feel than to explain. Because the work addresses the pattern rather than only the symptom, the relief tends to hold longer than a single session usually does.
Freedom Bodywork isn't always the whole hour. Sometimes it's how I open, so your body has arrived before my hands go deeper. Sometimes it's the entire session, because your body has made it clear that more pressure is the last thing it needs. We decide together, every time.
Available in 60, 90, and 120 minute sessions. Please wear or bring loose, comfortable clothing.
